My approach to therapy starts with the simple idea that there is nothing wrong with you. In fact, if we sat down and talked about it, we’d likely find that the way you’ve responded to your own life makes perfect sense in context. And since there is nothing wrong with you, I won’t fix you. Instead, we’ll work toward building the life you want to live, one step at a time. And if something is getting in the way, we will work it out together.
Rather than use a 'textbook' approach, I adapt many different kinds of therapy to support you. Those include:
I can work with adults and young people (ages 12+). I have the most experience working alongside:
This includes people who are questioning, pretty sure, or 'self-diagnosed'. A formal diagnosis is not required to receive support (and as a social worker, I do not 'do' assessment or diagnosis).
If you are currently suicidal or in a crisis, I may refer you to additional services. You will not lose access to support from me - rather, I will encourage you to lean into multiple sources of support.
I provide telehealth therapy by phone and video. For many people, this is a low-demand, accessible way to connect and access support.
I am currently accepting new telehealth therapy clients on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Outdoor therapy for folks who struggle in a stuffy office. This therapy can be adapted to you - nature based sitting therapy is also a totally valid option!
I am currently accepting new walking therapy clients on Friday afternoons.

I work with neurodivergent people aged 17 and older to develop skills for independence. This includes practical support to learn about...
Please note:
I am currently at capacity and can't accept new referrals for Peer Mentoring. If you'd like to be added to my waitlist, please use the contact form to get in touch. I will give you an estimated wait time so that you know what to expect.
Sometimes we have life problems that can't be solved by therapy. Sometimes what we need most is practical information and support, for example:
We can provide information and referrals to other LGBTQIA+ affirming services.
If you encounter challenges along the way, you might need us to provide advocacy. Advocacy is anything we do to ensure your voice gets heard, like...
If you book in for a Case Work/Advocacy appointment, please use our contact form to tell us a bit about your situation - that way I can come already prepared with information and resources! :)

My name is Kai! I'm an Accredited Social Worker and the therapist behind Transform Counselling.
I have seven years of experience working in LGBTQIA+ mental health, and four years of experience as a practicing social worker and therapist. I completed my Master of Social Work in 2022, and am working toward Accredited Mental Health Social Work status (all going well, I'll be able to offer a Medicare rebate for sessions in early to mid-2027!).
I support people to manage personal challenges (like trauma, anxiety, depression, impacts of discrimination, and stress) while living authentic, value-driven lives. I don't believe that our human lives have to be easy to also contain meaning, hope, connection, and joy. I commit to supporting you to choose the direction of your own life, and to move in that direction at your own pace.

Are you a peer worker, social worker, counsellor, or psychologist whose approach aligns with ours? Are you interested in working together? Perhaps co-facilitating a group or program? Please reach out, we'd love to hear from you.

At Transform Counselling, we consciously strives to model anti-racist, anti-ableist, anti-classist, LGBTQIA+ affirming, feminist, and neuro-affirming behaviour. We recognize that the work of being an anti-oppressive practitioner is ongoing. We commit to being honest, accountable, and making amends to the best of our ability if at any point, we don't meet our own standards.
